A warm welcome

Dear editor,
A few days ago a convoy of three vans
from South Gippsland, Victoria came
through Cobar.
Some of us have travelled to many places in
and out of Australia and, although we have met
many wonderful locals who couldn’t do
enough for tourists on our travels, we must say
that Cobar went above and beyond.
Firstly we pulled up at the classic Cobar sign
to get our photo when a local passing by saw us
and detoured into the carpark to offer her
services as a photographer so that we could all
be in the photo. She was not exactly parked
there and came across us by accident but
actually went out of the way to support the
tourists.
Not long after, we had bought our groceries
at IGA and were walking through the carpark
when a local stopped and asked us if we had far
to walk, obviously offering us her kindness in
a ride to our vehicle. At the same time another
member of our group was at the IGA bottle
shop and, upon leaving, another person
stopped to ask if she needed help.
Not only were these incidents
overwhelmingly comforting but every shop we
entered – the supermarket, camping store, cafe
and pharmacy, the locals were warm, friendly
and welcoming.
I have never written to express my
appreciation and gratitude to a town before but
this time it should be stated that Cobar goes
above and beyond to welcome its visitors.
