The Cobar Roosterettes have kept their 2026 Castlereagh League Tag finals hopes alive with a sensational 34-16 win over Gulgong in Sunday’s elimination semi-final at Dunedoo.
Cobar made the perfect start, with Taylah Good crossing for a try just two minutes into the match. Brianna Watson added the extras to give the Roosterettes an early 6-0 lead.
Gulgong hit back not long after with an unconverted try to reduce the margin to 6-4.
Team captain, Kayla Hasson-Williams then took control, crossing for two tries in succession to help the Roosterettes establish a commanding 16-4 lead at half-time.
Gulgong came out strongly after the break, scoring four minutes into the second half to bring the margin back to 16-10.
Six minutes later, another Gulgong try, followed by a successful conversion, levelled the scores at 16-all in the 40th minute.
The scores remained locked for the next eight minutes before Watson broke the deadlock, scoring a try and converting to put Cobar back in front 22-16.
With four minutes remaining, Neve Carter crossed under the posts and Watson converted to extend the Roosterettes’ lead to 28-16.
Sosie Barton’s try just before full-time sealed the victory, with Watson’s conversion giving Cobar a convincing 34-16 win.
Watson had an outstanding day with the boot, finishing with five successful conversions from her six attempts.
The Roosterettes’ victory keeps their finals campaign alive and sets up another important challenge as they continue their push for a place in the Castlereagh League Tag grand final. They will take on Narromine this Sunday in Coolah in the minor semi final, another must-win game, while Dunedoo Swannettes will play the Coolah Flyers in the major semi final game on Saturday here in Cobar.
