It was a big weekend of bowls action at the Cobar Bowling & Golf Club with a good roll up of players coming from Newcastle, Brighton (SA), Noosa, Blacktown, Hillston and Bourke for Saturday’s Triples Tournament and Sunday’s President’s Day.
There were 18 teams for the triples competition on Saturday with players being drawn for each team.
Some great bowls were played throughout the day and, after three games of 12 ends, the top four teams played off in the finals.
From that, two teams had three wins and the other two teams had two wins and a loss, and the sides with the best ‘for and against’ result went through to the final.
The final games were a four end shootout.
After the first final the two winners played off for first and second place and the two losers played off for third and fourth place.
Craig ‘Duck’ Grimmond led his team of visitors Mick Berwick (Blacktown) and Dand Lynch (Hillston) to a +2 victory over the all-Cobar team of Tony Polack, Allan Gardoll and Mick McManus.
Finishing third were Davey Crocket (Blacktown), Paul Kershaw and Jason Howell by a plus 2 margin over Bian Smith, Peter Gleeson (Newcastle) and David Kershaw.
There were 22 teams on the greens for President’s Day on Sunday to play two games of 16 ends.
The morning winners were Kyle Roberts, Don Roberts and Doug Hudson while the afternoon winners were the Hillston team of Dave Shields, Bruce Shields and Roger Allan.
Finishing as the overall winners was the team of Shane Carter, Paul Kershaw and Alec Fraser won on a countback from Hillston’s Andrew Hider, Jess Hider and Alan Cooper.
In third place was the Bourke side of Krystal Bock, Mark O’Shannessy and Fiona Rankmore.—The Jack
