Newcomers to Mermaids have dominated the competition

Two newcomers this season have dominated the Mermaids competition over the past two weeks.

Gabbi Lennon (16 points) and Makaila Gordon (14) collected the lion’s share of points at the Mermaids women’s swimming club handicapped event on Sunday which attracted seven swimmers and included another new member.

Lennon won the 50 metres event with a time of 0.40 seconds off her nominated time.

Gordon was pipped for the win by 0.01 of a second finishing 0.41seconds off her nominated time. Well back in third place was Allison Harland on 2.69.

Gordon won the 30m swim with a time of 0.22sec with Lennon second on 0.41 and Bianka Jacobson was marginally behind in third place on 0.47.

Alex Hernando was well ahead of the field in the 100m swim finishing within 0.34sec of her nominated time.

Lennon was well behind on 1.63sec and just ahead of Jacobson on 1.65.

A novelty event was also held with swimmers required to run across the pool in the water with their hands on their heads.

Lennon was the fastest finisher with Jacobson second and Gordon was third.

After two weeks of competition Hernando narrowly leads the point score competition with a total of 23 points with Gordon just behind on 22.
