The 2022 Cobar Ladies Club Championships
were held in bleak and miserable
weather on the weekend.
Saturday’s wind and rain saw many a golfer
unable to seek shelter but there were a few
lucky ones close enough to take a break at the
‘AlKnighter barbecue area and wait for conditions
to improve, only to be caught in another
deluge a few fairways later.
It was a little better on Sunday with only a
light shower or two interrupting the last of the
54 hole tournament.
Jenny Stephenson finished as the A Grade
scratch winner for the year with 244 off the
stick. Narelle Kriz played well on Sunday to
climb up three spots to take the Scratch runnerup
title with 270.
Julie Livingston was the Net winner with
228 and Sally Bannister (239) was the runnerup.
Serena Fraser secured the B Grade Scratch
title advancing two places from Saturday’s
round and posting a total of 311. Robynne
Morton was the runner-up with 313. The Net
winner was Susan Goonrey on 246 while Marlene
Wynd was the runner-up with 251.
Glenda Peebles took out the C Grade Scratch
title with a score of 376 over the 54 hole event.
The results of the 18 hole ball competition
played in conjunction with the championships
was as follows:
Saturday’s winner was Julie Livingston with
73 net; runner-up, Robynne Morton 75; 3rd
Jenny Stephenson 75; 4th Serena Fraser 76;
and 5th Marlene Wynd 77; Nearest the Pin
winners—Jenny Stephenson (A Grade on the
3rd hole), Jannine Wilkin (B Grade on the
15th) and Glenda Peebles (C grade on the 8th
hole).
Sunday’s winner was Narelle Kriz with 75
net and Jenny Stephenson was the runner-up
on 76; 3rd Sally Bannister 79; 4th Wan Sipatsa
79; and 5th Julie Livingston 80; Nearest the
Pin winners were Narelle Kriz (A Grade on the
11th hole), Serena Fraser (B Grade on the 7th)
and once again Glenda Peebles on the 15th for
C Grade.
The Match Play final last Friday was a seesawing
game between Sally Bannister and
Narelle Kriz. Square after 18 holes, Kriz finished
as the winner on the 19th.
A field of 10 players took to the course last
Wednesday for a Stableford game to warm up
before the weekend.
Julie Livingston’s 36 points secured her the
win over Fran Samios and Fay Hardwick, who
both had 32 points.
Sally Bannister finished the day on 30.
A Stroke game is to be played today while
the Cobar Vets will host their open for both
men and women on Friday.
Saturday is August’s Trophy Day which will
be played as a Par game.
The previously postponed Pink Day, raising
money for breast cancer, will now be played
on Sunday as a three person Stableford.—T’d
