Van Breugel is Yabbies 2020/2021 Club Champion

Cameron van Breugel collected the lion’s
share of prizes at the Cobar Yabbies Senior
Men’s Swimming Club end of season
presentations on Friday night at the Cobar
Bowling & Golf Club.
With a tally of 228 points for the season,
van Breugel earned the Overall Club Championship
Point Score Curly Solomon Shield
with Bill Fugar finishing as the runner-up
with 223 points and Murray Harland was
third with 214.
In addition to being named the 2020/2021
overall Club Champion, van Breugel also
won the 50 metres Russell Harland Memorial
Shield with a total of 96 points (ahead of
Murray Harland on 78 points and Matt Harland
with 65).
Van Breugel also shared the Brace Relay
title with Murray Harland.
Fugar claimed the 30 metres Cobar Bowling
& Golf Club Shield with a tally of 76
points for the season with van Breugel the
runner-up on 64 and Murray Harland was
just behind in third place with 62 points.
Fugar also won the 100 metres Phil Knuckey
Memorial Shield finishing with 85 points
ahead of Murray Harland on 74 and van
Breugel was third with 68.
Van Breugel was also the hands down winner
of the Ian Settree Memorial One Night
Stand award.
In one night of competition he finished
with the unbeatable combined time of 0.06
seconds off his nominated times over three
events.
Murray Harland was the runner-up with
0.21 and Matt Harland, with 0.28, was third.
Dave Mexted collected the Tom Knight
Memorial Shield as the Most Improved Senior
Swimmer of the season.
Yabbies club president John Carswell reported
that after an interrupted 2019/2020
season, things were back to “just about normal
this season” and only the annual Five
Way Swim had to be cancelled last year.
He said their next season is going to be a
big one and will kick off with the Five Way
Swim at the beginning of October followed
by their 50th Anniversary celebrations later
that month, the Setts Cup carnival in Nyngan
in December, the Western Districts AIF Carnival,
(which is also to be hosted by Nyngan
in February) and will culminate with the National
AIF Carnival in March at Coffs Harbour
