looking its very best for Mayor Lilliane Brady OAM’s State Funeral on Friday.
Cobar Mayor Lilliane Brady OAM, who passed away last week while still in office, is to be honoured with a State Funeral this Friday in recognition of her 40 years of service to Local Government.
Deputy Premier John Barilaro announced last Wednesday that Mayor Brady, who he described as “a champion of Western NSW” would be commemorated with the important honour of a State Funeral.
“Lilliane Brady OAM was the longest serving female Mayor in NSW and will be formally acknowledged by the NSW Government for her decades-long commitment to regional NSW by way of a State Funeral,” Mr Barilaro said.
“For 40 years Lilliane was a vocal advocate for her community and the broader western NSW region and fiercely fought for what she believed in.
“While small in stature, Lilliane was a giant of local government for the last four decades and her unrivalled passion for the people of Cobar was critical in seeing the advancement of the community through local projects and funding.
“After serving 20 years as Mayor of Cobar Shire Council, Lilliane leaves behind an enduring legacy, the likes of which we will never see again.
“My deepest sympathy goes out to Lilliane’s family, friends, colleagues and the communities of regional NSW for which she fought tirelessly.” Mr Barilaro said.
Lilliane’s family and Cobar Shire Council staff have been working with the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet to organise the funeral, which is to also be live streamed for those who are unable to attend the service in Drummond Park on Friday morning.
The event is expected to attract the attention of the media with television, radio and print media journalists, photographers/TV crews all expected to attend.
In addition to Lilliane’s family and friends, local residents and former residents attending, a large number of her Local, State and Federal Government colleagues will pay their respects alongside representatives from various government agencies, service and community groups, Cobar schools and the business community.
As a final farewell to Cobar’s longest serving mayor, Cobar Shire Council staff will provide a 150-person Guard of Honour.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, limited seating is available, all attendees will need to QR sign in at designated entry points and maintain social distancing.
