A group of approximately 30 library lovers gathered at the Cobar Library on Thursday afternoon to celebrate the library’s 60th anniversary.
Library manager Jane Siermans said despite the unexpected clash with other council and community events, the party was well attended.
As part of the celebration activities Ms Siermans spoke about the library’s history and passed on words of congratulation and support from Council staff and councillors.
Joy Martin also presented a message from State Member for Barwon Roy Butler, and Britta Mortensen spoke as a representative of the State Library of NSW.
Ms Mortensen outlined the history of the 80 year old Public Library Act. She also passed on words of congratulation from the State Librarian Dr John Vallance.
“Long-term library customers Jenny Bridle, Kay Stingemore and Sue Cox also took the opportunity to present their very personal and moving library stories,” Ms Siermans said.
“All who attended enjoyed delicious cake and other tasty snacks, as well as the detailed historical displays of library history, staff and events.”
Cora and Isla McKervey won the grand prize for quickest correct completion of the library quiz, and all enjoyed the treasure hunt for the delicious chocolate gold coins scattered throughout the library.
