Yabbies clean up at Western districts carnival

The Cobar Yabbies have once again cleaned up at the annual Western Districts AIF Swimming Carnival finishing as the overall winners of the day on Sunday in Dubbo.

The Yabbies finished with a big tally of 222 points ahead of Condobolin (195) and Dubbo (192) with Nyngan and Wellington filling the minor placings.

The Yabbies recorded a few podium finishes in their individual events before ending the day strongly in the relays.

They won the prestigious 10 Man 50 metres handicapped event and also the 6x50m handicapped relay and, in the 4x50m Open Scratch relay, the Yabbies team of Scott Toomey, Jason Toomey, Ben Plush and Murray Harland finished second.

Greg Dimond, John Carswell, Stephen Clark and Bob Clark teamed up to record third place in the 200+ 4x50m handicapped relay. (The total ages of the four swimmers needs to be 200 years or more.)

In the individual events, Dave Mexted finished first in both the 30m and 50m RSL Handicap finals; Carswell grabbed second place in the 50m President’s handicapped swim; Ben Plush was second in the 100m Open Handicap final; Murray Harland finished third in the 30m Open Handicap final and Stephen Clark placed third in the 50m Open Handicap final…Full report in this week’s edition out now!
