Wet and windy games for netballers

Wet and windy conditions marked the start of the twilight games of the senior netball competition on Saturday night at Ward Oval.

Pumpettes finished with a 55-13 win over Sharpe Shooters in their match.

Both sides took their time to find form in the conditions with Pumpettes settling quicker to lead at the end of the first quarter.

A number of intercepts by Pumpettes’ Molly Carter and Rachel Gentles, along with Sharpe Shooters’ Britt Martin kept the ball moving quickly up and down the court during the second quarter.

Tayla Toomey, working hard in the centre court, transitioned the ball with speed and skill to be a stand-out for her Sharpe Shooters side in the third quarter.

Stellar defence from Gentles and team mate Jayme Francisco was the highlight of the fourth quarter and ensured the Pumpettes finished with a big win.

The Hot Shots started well in their match against a depleted Gumnuts team and went on to finish with a 69-14 victory.

Hot Shots were well-served by Stacey Harrison in defence while Gumnuts’ best on court was Lexie Traynor who played Goal Attack and defence.

The other two Round 11 scheduled matches were forfeits with JKM and Mid Strength Merinos both unable to field teams.

Their opposition, Divas and Real Steel,  claimed the points for easy wins this round.
