VIP win for Guns N Hoses in Opens Touch competition

The Guns N Hoses team were all smiles after their Opens Touch win on Thursday night at Ward Oval. It’s the first time the team has won a game in four seasons, and they did it in style, knocking off last season’s B Grade premiers, Fast Fades, 10-8. ▪ Contributed

Mako’s (A Grade) and Full Tilt (B Grade)  have finished at the top of the tables in the Open Touch competition.

Both sides got the night off last week as the rest of the competition’s teams were left to sort themselves out in the qualifying and elimination finals.

The important games took place in the B Grade competition—Guns N Hoses made history recording their first win in four years of playing in the competition which saved them from elimination and Phat Athletes finished with a thrilling win in their match in extra time.

Guns N Hoses were up against last season’s B Grade grand final winners, Fast Fades, in their B Grade elimination match.

Guns n Hoses came out all guns blazing to finish with a 10-8 win.

Parker Cryer led their scoring with four tries, Ryan Chillingworth crossed three times, Marley Jones scored a double and Graham Manuai also touched down for a try for the victorious Guns N Hoses.

Fast Fades’ try scorers were Billy George, Sam Best, Abbey Farrell, Aiden Porter, Jayde George and Tommy George.

Fast Fades have now been eliminated from the competition.

Phat Athletes came from behind to level the scores at 3-all at full time in their B Grade qualifying final with Rock Dogs.

The match then went into extra time with a drop off with Phat Athletes’ experience seeing them through to an eventual 5-3 win.

Josh Francisco was a stand-out for Phat Athletes scoring four tries in the match, including two tries in extra time, which sealed  their win.

Phat Athletes’ other point came from a try to Adam Doherty.

Points for Rock Dogs came from Aiden Hyland, Ed Paul and Lachie Brookman.

In the A Grade qualifying final, Concrete Cowboys got the better of Blossoms.

The scores were locked-up at 2-all at halftime before the Concrete Cowboys ran away with the second half to claim an 8-4 win.

Chris Crotty raced in three tries for Concrete Cowboys with Ash Davies, Bridgette Negfeldt and Taylah Good also adding a try each to their tally. (Female tries are worth double points.)

Sosie Barton scored a double for the Blossoms.

In the A Grade elimination final, Rusty Snails caused the exit of Kiss my pass from the competition in a dominant defensive display which kept Kiss my pass scoreless all match.

Rusty Snails finished with a tough 3-0 victory.

A first half try by Nathan Prince and Nicola Harbison’s second half touchdown sealed the win for Rusty Snails.

Rusty Snails will meet Concrete Cowboys tomorrow night and Blossoms will take on the minor premiers Mako’s in the A Grade finals.

The winners of these games will play each other in next week’s A Grade grand final.

Guns N Hoses will be hoping their winning form continues when they meet Phat Athletes tomorrow night, while in the other B Grade match, Rock Dogs will play this season’s minor premiers, Full Tilt.

The winners of each will meet in next Thursday’s B Grade grand final.
