Cobar VIEW Club ladies indulged in a vir-tual trip to Italy at their September luncheon meeting last Tuesday.
The Empire Hotel’s function room took on the atmosphere of an Italian Café with colourful checked tablecloths, baskets of crusty loaves, olives and garlic in true Italian style.
Hostess, Cindy Bryan and her kitchen staff produced a magnificent buffet spread of lasagne, spaghetti and meatballs, chicken pasta, together with a variety of garlic breads and tossed salads.
When members thought it couldn’t get any better, a chocolate dessert and delicate pastries appeared to complete the feast.
Ladies contributed to the ‘Interest and Educa-tion’ part of VIEW with Italian jokes, interesting facts, a challenging quiz and a themed table of souvenir items gathered on holiday trips.
Member Dora Di Filippo shared some of her experiences as a young arrival in Australia from Italy with limited English skills and the difficul-ties she encountered coping with Australian idioms, particularly when going shopping.
On a sad note, member Faye Ansin formally resigned from the secretarial role she has carried out so efficiently, due to relocating to be with family in Adelaide.
Faye will be missed and goes with very good wishes from all VIEW ladies for this next jour-ney in her life.
Birthday ladies were acknowledged at the meeting and included Val O’Brien, Jo Betts and Mary Madden.
Mary was also presented with flowers for at-taining her 90 years milestone.
The lucky door prize was won by Phyllis Budd and Joan O’Brien took home the vegie raffle prize.
