Two newly added Great Cobar Museum displays, a Coach House and Underground Mining Exhibition, were officially unveiled to the public on Friday.
Built with funding from the NSW Government’s Resources for Regions and the Regional Tourism Activation Fund along with Council funding, the two new displays offer a look into Cobar’s past as well as a glimpse into mining life underground.
In the absence of the Minister for Regional NSW Tara Moriarty and Mayor Jarrod Marsden, Deputy Mayor Michael Prince was given the duties of officially opening the new displays on Friday.
Cr Prince said it was an honour to represent the mayor and Cobar Shire Council on what was “an important occasion” for the Cobar community.
He said the new exhibition will “continue to preserve and celebrate the history that has shaped Cobar and the people who have called this place home”.
“Our history tells the story of determination, resilience and hard work of those who came before us,” Cr Prince said.
“This new wing (as I call it) provides another opportunity for residents and visitors alike to step back in time, learn more about our past and gather a greater appreciation of the earlier generations.
“Museums like ours are an important part of keeping local history alive and ensuring that future generations can share the history,” he said.
