The Blossoms triumphantly return to the winner’s circle

After a hiccup with a loss in their last match in the Open Mixed Touch competition, The Blossoms returned to the winner’s circle on Thursday night when they beat new team Guns N’ Hoses, 17-0. The Blossoms won’t have it as easy this week when they come up against the Rusty Snails who are also coming off a win against the Phat Athletes.

The Blossoms returned to the winner’s circle with a big 17-0 win over Guns N’ Hoses in their Open Mixed Touch Round 5 game on Thursday night at Ward Oval.

Sosie Barton ran away to score five tries in the match and, with female tries worth double, she contributed 10 points, (more than half) to The Blossoms’ big tally.

Jaxon Burke scored three times, Rowdy Barton crossed twice and Oisin McMullen and Anthony Walker added a point each with their tries.

Barton, Burke and Jack Fazulla (Guns N’ Hoses) shared in the referee’s Best & Fairest points.

The closest match of the night was played between last season’s grand finalists, King Roosters and Concrete Cowboys, with King Roosters winning this encounter 9-7.

Tries for King Roosters were scored by Aisha Schofield, Kai Taylor, Molly Carter, Sophie Clark, Tadgh McMullen and Zane Taylor.

In reply, Bridgette Negfeldt, Neve Carter, Rori Urquhart and Zac Broughton scored a try each for Concrete Cowboys.

B&F points went to Kai Taylor, Kai Greenwood and Sophie Clark.

After narrowly leading 2-1 at half time, Phat Athletes relinquished their lead as Rusty Snails out-pointed them 4-1 in the second half to finish with a 5-3 victory.

Jesse Murphy scored two tries, one in each half, for Rusty Snails with team mates Ben McBride, Ethan McLeod and Nathan Prince running in a try each to help Rusty Snails to their win.

Phat Athletes’ points came from a try each to Jay Egan, Scott Meadows and Tim Hillam.

Phat Athletes’ Bianka Jacobson shared in the game’s B&F points along with Rusty Snails’ Lisa Dormer and Ethan McLeod.

The Red Hot Chilli Steppers easily accounted for the CATS 18-6 in their Round 5 game last week.

Kayla Hasson was sensational scoring five tries for the Chilli Steppers.

Jayden Cryer (2), Brennah Aumua, Gerald Mackey, Maurangi Maurangi and Tia Turner added the extras for Chilli Steppers.

Tries for the CATS were scored by Brandon Jones (2), Khan Fugar, Maddie Bruce and Sam Best.

Hasson earned the referee’s B&F three points with two points going to Jones and Jack Brown (Chilli Steppers) collected one point.
