Teenager wins a top sporting award

The Kerrigundi Sportsperson Award recipient Hannah Carroll at the Australia Day awards on Friday with ambassador John Moriarty AM.

Hannah Carroll, Chrissy Gilligan and John Collins were the recipients of this year’s Australia Day sports awards.

Teenager Hannah Carroll won the Kerrigungi award which recognises representative sporting achievements. Last year Hannah represented Cobar in a number of sports including netball and athletics.

Hannah won the NSW Discus State Championship for the third year in a row and placed first at the NSW Combined High Schools Athletics Championships.

The Sportsperson of the Year award went to Chrissy Gilligan who in 2017, became the first ever Western Districts golfer to win the Champion of Champions title as well as the Western District Ladies Golf Association Sandgreen Championships in Warren.

John Collins was awarded the Services to Sport award after spending the last four years writing a book detailing rugby league’s history in Cobar.
