Roosters celebrate a very successful season

The Cobar Roosters Rugby League Club celebrated one of their most successful seasons to date at their annual presentation night at the Cobar Bowling & Golf Club on Friday.

The club fielded four sides in the Castlereagh competition this season with a new Reserve Grade team joining the First Grade, League Tag and Youth League/Under 18s teams this year.

The Roosters First Graders finished as the competition’s runners-up after their narrow grand final loss to the Gulgong Terriers; the ladies League Tag recorded their best result to date in the Castlereagh competition finishing third; with the Cobar Youth League and Reserve Grade sides also finishing third in their respective grades.

First Grade’s captain/coach Thomas Plater won the Eric Martin Club Best and Fairest award and was also his team’s Highest Point Scorer and their Most Consistent Footballer.

Zane Taylor was First Grade’s Best and Fairest Player.

Brianna Watson was League Tag’s Best and Fairest and the club’s Highest Try Scorer.

Tadhg McMullen earned the Under 18’s Best and Fairest award while Shane Suridge collected the Reserve Grade Best and Fairest trophy.

Fraser Talu was awarded the Daryl Bannister Memorial Trophy as the Rookie of the Year.

Chris Crotty and Molly Carter were named as the club’s Most Improved Footballers.

Gerald Mackey earned the Barry Fox Most Dedicated Player award and Tadhg McMullen collected the Dianne McLeod award as the Player with the Most Potential.

Tyler Coughlan was named as the Norm Armstrong Most Consistent Back with Neve Carter League Tag’s Most Consistent player and Chris Deighton was Reserve Grade’s Most Consistent.

This season’s Players’ Player in each grade were: Gerald Mackey (First Grade), Jezebel Hitchins and Georgia Boland (League Tag) with Tyson Brilley and Dallas Josephson sharing the honour in Reserve Grade.

Gerald Mackey also collected the Most Consistent Forward trophy; Tim Hillam was First Grade’s Best Forward; Jayden Greenwood was named as Youth League’s Best Forward; and Dallas Josephson collected Reserve Grade’s Best Forward title for the 2023 season.

Among the Backs, Tyler Coughlan was announced as First Grade’s Best Back, Oisin McMullen was Youth League’s Best Back and Tyson Brilley won the award for Reserve Grade’s Best Back.

The entire Roosterettes team were acknowledged as League Tag’s Most Dedicated Players of the season.

This year’s Coaches Awards went to Haymish McLeod in First Grade, Neve Carter (League Tag), Toby Greenwood (Youth League) and Daniel Paggett (Reserve Grade).

Sophie Clark and Sarah Morley shared the Rob Gilligan Junior Clubman of the Year honour while Tia Turner collected the Tom Knight Memorial Shield as Club Person of the Year.
