The Cobar Roosterettes women’s League Tag side made the most of their last opportunity to play in the Group 11 Rugby League competition on Sunday finishing with a thrilling 12-10 win over Nyngan.

Handy half Zoë Harland opened the scoring for the Cobar side early in the trial match at Tom Knight Memorial Oval after a break away run to the line to give Cobar a 4-0 lead.

Nyngan levelled the scores shortly after when Alannah Ryan crossed for the visitors.

Jenna Fullagar stormed down the wing to score Cobar’s second and when Lisa Travis scooped on a dropped ball for an opportunist try midway through the second half, Cobar had a comfortable 12-4 lead.

Rachael Garland, Naomi Whitehurst, Brianna Watson and Rebekah Harris were strong in attack for the Roosterettes however couldn’t break the Nyngan line.

When Ryan crossed for her second try for the game (which was converted), the margin was 12-10 and Cobar had to work hard to hold out for the win. Lesley Tiffen ensured that happened with her consistent excellent one-on-one defence for the Roosterettes
