The weather cleared enough on Friday night for the first Senior Cricket Twenty20 game of the 2022/2023 season to be played under lights on the refurbished Ward Oval pitch.

It was the reigning 2021/2022 champions, Whackers who came away with a four-wicket win over their opposition, Hombres.

Hombres batted first and they were bowled out for a total of 99 runs in the 16th over.

Jay Egan (27) and opener Jason Hampel (24) top scored for Hombres.

The wickets were shared around for Whackers with Tristan Everett returning the best bowling figures.

He finished with two wickets for five runs.

Batting in reply, Whackers passed the required total with just six wickets down in the 18th over to claim the win.

Marty Turton, who finished with 29 not out and Tim Hillam, on 27, steered the Whackers home.

Jason Hampel was the pick of the Hombres’ bowlers taking three wickets for 16 runs.

The representative game between Cobar and Bourke has been postponed until next Sunday.—contributed
