Nyngan didn’t even get a look-in

The Cobar Yabbies dominated all four events when they hosted the Nyngan Splashers on Sunday morning for the annual Setts
Memorial Swimming Carnival. The Yabbies didn’t give the visitors a look in as Cobar claimed the Setts Memorial Trophy.

The Cobar Yabbies have kept a tight grip on the Setts Memorial Trophy after once again beating Nyngan at the annual Setts Memorial Swimming Carnival on Sunday.

The Yabbies have held the trophy since its inception in 2015 with the event honouring the memory of former Cobar club president and Nyngan club member, Ian ‘Setts’ Settree.

The Nyngan Splashers RSL Swimming Club have come close on a number of occasions to taking the trophy, but have never managed to wrestle out of the Yabbies’ grasp.

This year the they didn’t even get a look in, with the Yabbies dominating every event.

Chris Powell set the theme in the opening event, the 30m swim, when he swam spot on his nominated time to claim the win.

Tom Jones was second (0.07) and Jason Toomey finished third (0.13).

In the 50m swim, Murray Harland, with 0.02 seconds off his nominated time, claimed a narrow win over second placed Bill Fugar on 0.03 and Jones was third with 0.05.

Harland then backed up to win the 100m swim with a time of 0.46 seconds off his nominated time.

Toomey was a close second on 0.49 and Matt ‘better late than never’ Harland was third with 1.18 seconds off his time.

By the end of the first three events, Cobar had an 18-0 lead over Nyngan and then a win of the four man relay saw the Yabbies through to a 24-0 whitewash win over the Splashers.
