New police housing for Barwon

A total of 19 new Police Force Housing homes will be delivered across Barwon in 2025/26, according to a NSW Government response to a question on notice from the Member for Barwon, Roy Butler MP.

Three of the homes, all  with four bedrooms, have been allocated to Cobar Shire.

Mr Butler said this investment aims to help attract and retain officers in rural and remote communities where housing availability is a major challenge.

“Key worker housing is a major choke point for growing our population in Barwon,” Mr Butler said.

“Without secure and appropriate accommodation, it becomes even more difficult to attract and retain officers in tight housing and rental markets”.

Police Minister Yasmin Catley said they had identified that a lack of housing was a barrier for officers coming out to more remote areas.

“This is now just opening up opportunities,” Minister Catley said.

Mr Butler said it is reassuring to see plans in place for nine of Barwon communities, where police can live locally, be a part of the community they serve and respond quickly to emergencies.

“Recruiting and retaining police officers in rural and remote areas depends on having suitable housing available.

“These new homes will make a real difference to community safety and stability,” Mr Butler said.
