The Vi McLaughlin Memorial Day Canadian Ladies’ Golf event on Saturday had the best field of the week with 16 ladies taking part.

Marlene Wynd and Daphne Cross were the winners of the perpetual trophy with 78 1/2 net followed by Karen Manns and Julie Livingston on 80 net.

In third place were Barb Barklimore and Brenda Fugar (80 7/8) with Serena Fraser and Robynne Morton next with 84 1/2.

Sally Bannister and Geraldine Francisco rounded out the top place getters with 86 1/8 net.

Nearest the Pin winners on the 8th hole were Robynne Morton, Serena Fraser and Rhonda Campbell.

Closest to the flag on the 11th hole were Sally Bannister, Fran Samios and Bev McLaughlin.

Numbers were down in the other Ladies Golf competition games played last week with only the bare minimum on hand for the games to go ahead.

Geraldine Francisco was the stroke winner last Wednesday after finishing with a score of  net 79.

Marlene Wynd was the runner-up with 80 net and also won the putting prize for B Grade after having 25 putts on the day.

Reina Cross was the best on the greens for C Grade with 33 putts. (There were no A Grade players on the day.)

Geraldine Francisco was back in the winner’s circle on Sunday after finishing with 33 points to take out the Stableford round just ahead of Barb Barklimore on 31.

Julie Livingston, Marlene Wynd and Daphne Cross picked up Nearest the Pin prizes on the 15th hole.

Liking the small field of competitors, Geraldine Francisco had her third win of the week in the holiday Monday Stableford game posting 35 points.

Karen Manns finished in second place with 28 points.

No players in any grade could stay on the 7th fairway to collect the Nearest the Pin prizes.

Stableford games will be on offer on both Saturday and Sunday this weekend.

Unfortunately the Darling River Golf Club have advised their Bourke Pro Am that was to be held this weekend will not go ahead due to the lack of volunteers, golf members and course maintenance.

Recent vandalism and watering issues have influenced the club’s decision.—T’d Off
