The Cobar District Concert Band put together an exhilarating and toe-tapping concert showcasing their musical talents at the Cobar Services Club last Wednesday night.
The recently formed town band was able to perform the concert thanks to a generous donation from Harmony CSA Mine.
With classics such as Rock Around The Clock and Proud Mary, along with more contemporary songs such as The Final Countdown and Mambo No. 5, the band had the audience, clapping and singing along.
The NSW Governor, Her Excellency, the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC was a special guest at the concert along with Harmony’s Chief Operating Officer Jaco Boshoff and Harmony CSA Mine General Manager Robert Gracey and staff members.
Band leader and local music teacher, Judy Toomey, reports the guests “are said to have thoroughly enjoyed the evening, with Her Excellency greeting and thanking the band members on stage afterwards”.
Bob Pike, a former town band member and conductor, was also in attendance.
Some of the current band members played under Mr Pike in the 1980s making it an even more memorable occasion.
“The band reformed in 2024 and has been working hard to present their progress to the community,” Judy said.
“It was fantastic to have so much support from the community and the band has received an abundance of positive feedback,” she said.–contributed
