CSA caused an upset in soccer final

CSA caused an upset in the preliminary final of the Mixed Indoor Soccer competition last Wednesday when they defeated their higher ranked opposition in Wii Not Fit.

In the other game played last week Peakaroos put The Mixers out of the competition with their win in the elimination final.

In an upset, CSA came from behind twice to eventually defeat Wii Not Fit 4-3 and progress to the major semi-final. Wii Not Fit opened the scoring in their game against CSA through a goal to Bianka Jacobson.

CSA answered quickly levelling the scores through their goal netted by Sarah Barber.

Wii Not Fit went back ahead thanks to an own goal and remarkably CSA were quick to reply. The leveller again came through an own goal.

CSA hit the lead just before half time through a goal scored by Tony Walkinshaw and CSA had a narrow one goal lead, 4-3 at the break.

Neither team was able to add to their score in the second half and CSA held on to claim the victory.

In the earlier game, the elimination final, it was a do or die match between Peakaroos and The Mixers.

Both teams have been evenly matched throughout the season and Wednesday night’s game was no different.

The Mixers opened the scoring through Jason Foster but Peakaroos hit back scoring the next four goals before half time.

John Heavey (2), Thomas Wall and Bryan Strahl all scored goals for Peakaroos.

The intensity and speed picked up in the second half but the score remained unchanged until the final five minutes of play when The Mixers’ Michela Cartner goaled to setup a block buster of a finish. Peakaroos were able to hang on and win the game 4-3.

In tonight’s games, Wii Not Fit face Peakaroos with the winner advancing to the final while the loser will be eliminated.

Bayer Neverlosen will face CSA with the winner to grab the first berth in the grand final.

The loser gets a second shot next week but will have to fight it out with the winner of the match between Wii Not Fit and Peakaroos.—contributed
