Three Cobar High School swimmers are off to the State Championships next month after achieving success at the Western Swimming Carnival in Dubbo on Thurs-day.
Raymond Jones, Axel Fairfull and Henry Knight recorded podium finishes at last week’s carnival with each setting new PBs in nearly all of their events.
Raymond Jones had a big day in the water competing in seven events in the 17-19 Year Boys age division.
He has qualified for State in six events after he finished second in his 100m Backstroke, 50m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle, 100m Breast-stroke (with a 9.36 second improvement), 100m Butterfly and 200m Individual Medley events. Raymond just missed out on qualify-ing for State in his 200m Freestyle event after he finished 4th.
An improvement by six and a half seconds helped Axel Fairfull to win his 13 Years Boys 100 metres Butterfly event to see him qualify for the State carnival.
He was just off the pace in his 100 metres Backstroke swim to place 4th (where he im-proved his previous PB by 10.50 seconds) and also missed podium spots in his 100 metres Freestyle and 50 metres Freestyle events.
Henry Knight swam in five events and qual-ified for State after his first place finish in his 14 Years Boys 100m Butterfly. He improved on his previous best time by 5.22 seconds
Henry just finished out of the top placings with a 4th place in 100 metres Backstroke (and an improved time by 7.98 seconds) and 5th in Boys 12-14 Individual Medley.
He was also out of contention in his 50 me-tres and 100 metres Freestyle events.
Also competing at the carnival were Cobar High School team mates Braiden Jones and Nick Hodges.
Braiden had qualified for the 16 Years Boys 50 Metres Freestyle event and finished in 8th spot while Nick placed 9th in his 14 Years Boys 50 metres freestyle event.
