The 2024 Christie and Hood Castlereagh League season got underway with the annual Youth League and League Tag knockouts being played at Coonabarabran on Saturday.

With two fields in use, a combined total of 24 games were played in front of a sizeable crowd which enjoyed the action.

Cobar’s Under 18s side, under the guidance of coach Paul ‘Sully’ Sullivan, played three matches finishing with a win, a draw and a loss.

Their first encounter with Binnaway finished in a 10-all draw.

The Bantam Roosters recorded their best effort of the day in their second match when they downed Gulgong 18-10.

They lost their final match to Narromine
8-18 and, on calculation of ‘for and against’ points, they missed out on making the final.

In the final, the Binnaway Bombshells gained some degree of revenge for their narrow 2023 Youth League grand final loss to the Narromine Jets when they over-ran the red and whites to the tune of 24-4, much to the delight of the Binnaway faithful.

Cobar’s Roosterettes League Tag side had back-to-back matches first up in their knockout pool.

They narrowly lost both games going down
8-0 to Coolah in their first game and then losing 14-6 to Baradine in their second game.

After a short break they faced a tough Narromine Jets team who comprehensively beat Cobar 30-0.

The Roosterettes finally got a win in their final game where they had it all their own way to beat Binnaway 14-0.

Dunedoo and Narromine met in the final, and in another 2023 grand final replay, Narromine again prevailed with a hard fought and entertaining 6-0 victory to claim the KO Shield…Read Full report in this weeks edition out now!
