Championship games draw a crowd

Two Championship Bowls Singles games drew quite a crowd of spectators to the Golfie greens on Saturday.

Tony Polack and Glenn ‘Kiwi’ Ratcliffe’s game started out in favour of Kiwi until Polly’s consistency finding grass and weight proved to be too good for Kiwi and Polly finished as the +12 victor.

Polly’s well deserved win takes him through to the semi finals.

In the other game, Damon Pike (in his first time stepping up to championship league with brand new bowls) played Alan Knight who is no stranger to championship greens.

Knight’s experience saw him through to a +21 win and, in true Knight fashion, Knight was generous with his guidance and support of his opponent.

Sunday’s Championship Doubles game between Alec Fraser and Mark Fraser who took on Dean ‘Bogger’ McLeod and Jason Howell, started out on an even keel with the scores level on both the 5th and 13th ends.

A +5 advantage on the second last end in favour of Bogger/Howell sealed their win by +10 to take them through to the semi finals.

Sunday’s Social Bowls was a wonderful day to be out and about enjoying the sunshine and perfect greens.

The winners of the day were the triples team of Craig ‘Duck’ Grimmond, John Goonrey and Karen Daly who had a +6 win in their match with David ‘Ooze’ Knight, Bian Smith and David Thomas. It was a close match and the scores were even no fewer than three times.

The day’s runners-up were the triples team of John ‘Shark’ Daly, Damon Pike and Tony Polack who finished with a +3 win against David Schofield, Steve Manns and Greg Clark.

Yet again there was barely a point separating the two sides until the very last end.

In the other social game between Gerard Livingston, Ian Prendergast and double lead Mick Harvey up against Don Roberts, Doug Hudson and Harvey was intense to say the least and finally ended in a draw.

The George The Giraffe Award was hotly contested by Livingston and Howell with Howell eventually winning the title on a countback!—The Second
