CATS in a big hurry at the end of the triathlon season

CATS club members Chris Freeman, Chris Powell, Bianka Jacobson, Zoë Egan, Greg McKervey, Isaac Theakston, Zac Broughton, Axel Fairfull and Tommy Bryan at the Cobar Memorial Swimming Pool on Sunday morning.

There was a field of eight competitors (and one official) up early on Sunday morning for the Cobar Athletics & Triath-lon Squad’s (CATS) final triathlon event of the 2020/2021 season.
Fast times were recorded by all eight com-petitors with six members setting new per-sonal best times.
The overall winner was Chris Freeman, in what was his first event for the season.
Freeman was the only Long Course com-petitor and knocked eight minutes off his previous best time from last season.
He set a new PB of 1hr 10min 33sec during the 500m swim, 20km ride and 4km run course.
In second place was Zac Broughton who completed the Short Course (300m swim, 10km ride and 2km run) in 37min 46sec which was also a new PB for him.
Finishing third was the new team of Greg McKervey and Bianka Jacobson who nomi-nated a time of 41min and finished the Short Course in 38min 26sec.
Axel Fairfull had the fastest swim leg of the day; McKervey recorded the fastest run; and Chris Powell had the quickest bike leg.
Tommy Bryan and Issac Theakston fin-ished with new PBs in both their swim and run legs while Axel Fairfull recorded a new PB on his run leg.
Following the event, the CATS members were treated to a barbecue breakfast provided by Cobar Shire Council (as part of their end of season Pool Party) and cooked by Council staff member Sharon Moore.
