Car seat checks provide peace of mind for local parents

The Roads and Maritime Services were in Cobar last Thursday offering free child seat checks. Pictured in her secure child seat is Delilah McBride (with ‘Sparkles’) along with Neil Sturrock from Dubbo Autobarn who completed the checks.

Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) was in Cobar last Thursday offering free child seat checks.

RMS Road User Safety Officer Trish Wilson told The Cobar Weekly the service is an initiative of Transport for NSW.

“We know there is no service like this in far western NSW so we decided to take the service on the road.

“We’ve had a really good response,” Ms Wilson said.

Travelling with Ms Wilson was Neil Sturrock from Dubbo Autobarn who offered his professional services to inspect and adjust the child car seats.

Ms Wilson said that while doing the inspections, they also educate parents and carers about child seat safety.

“We give advice on the correct way to use the child car seat.”

“It’s surprising how many seats we check that are not properly installed,” Ms Wilson said.
