Bruce Shuttle was recently recognised for his outstanding contribution and hard work when he was awarded the Cobar Shire Council, Employee Of The Month Award last Thursday.

Mr Shuttle was presented with the award by council’s human resources manager Michelle Maidens who said Bruce is a great asset to the shire and the Cobar community.

Bruce has been looking after the cemetery since 2005, initially in a volunteer capacity as part of the cemetery committee before being employed as a labourer with Cobar Shire Council.

In his role he maintains the Cobar cemetery gardens, cleans up rubbish, plants trees, shrubs and flowers.

Mrs Maidens said he does this of this own accord, sometimes using his own sources.

“He is self-motivated by his community spirit and takes great pride in keeping the cemetery looking as good as possible and to a very high standard.

“Bruce is very respectful when a funeral service is taking place not to disturb anyone whilst continuing his good work in another area of the cemetery,” Mrs Maidens said.
