business woman, Seigrid Peters, who collaborated with local chef, Haylee Prince to give locals (and visitors) a unique bush experience. The pair built on the success of last year’s event and this year added an extra 40 tickets. The event aimed to showcase the bush and also local businesses.
When you bring together a creative artist who has a spare paddock and a skilled chef with a fitted out commercial kitchen on wheels, you get a winning combination of Palettes and Palates in the Paddock.
Mix in some delicious food, add a dash of line dancing, throw in an art lesson and round it out with a few drinks and good company, and you’ve got yourself a great night out.
That’s exactly what two local business women did on Saturday night with artist Seigrid Peters from The Pink Galah and chef Haylee Prince from Classique Catering combining their talents to host the second annual Palettes and Palates in the Paddock event.
Held in a paddock at Seigrid and her husband’s property, Scrubby Valley 10km east of Cobar, the ticketed event sold out in just 30 minutes.
It was the second year the pair have combined to hold the unique event and this year they added an extra 40 tickets to cater for 120 guests on Saturday.
Seigrid said the planning had been much easier this year compared to their first event last year.
“This year I felt stressed that I wasn’t as stressed as last year,” she said.
“Everything was just happening but I was worried we were missing something.
“This year it flowed better,” Seigrid said.
Haylee agreed.
“On the night I was a bit busy, but it all went pretty smoothly.
“There was a really good atmosphere throughout the night,” Haylee said.
“And we got lots of good feedback.”
The event was an idea of Seigrid’s.
“I was trying to work out how I can get more people out in the bush to celebrate the bush, how we could do it creatively and obviously we’d need bloody good food,” Seigrid told The Cobar Weekly.
“So I decided to approach Haylee.
Palettes and palates—two meanings, two different spellings that are summed up by their respective talents.
A lot of hard work and effort went into the planning and execution of their two events (including Seigrid hand drawing 120 canvases for guests to paint) but it has paid off with many of last year’s guests returning to celebrate again this year.
This year locals were joined by visitors from Nyngan, Bourke, Tilpa, Louth, Hillson, Wilcannia, Tottenham, Dubbo, Orange, Bathurst, Cowra, Booroowa, Binalong, Walcha and the north coast.
Haylee estimates about a third of the crowd travelled to Cobar for the event.
Seigrid said Palettes and Palates was all about celebrating where we live, but it was also an opportunity to showcase their businesses along with a number of other local and regional businesses who sponsored the event.
This year’s sponsors included Inner Balance, Dee Louise Designs and WDI Health and Beauty who provided various prizes throughout the night.
Donations of table salt from Copago Salt (a station-based business near Wilcannia) and a mobile bar set up from CaraVan Morrison at Yass, also showcased their wares as part of the event.
