Big roll up of bowlers for Kaz and Shark’s send off

There was a good roll up of 34 bowler mates on the Golfie greens on Sunday morning to farewell regular bowlers Karen and John ‘Shark’ Daly. Pictured are: David ‘Ooze’ Knight, Tony Polack, Peter ‘Skeet’ Goonrey, Karen, John, Shane Carter and Jeff Smith

A field of 34 bowler mates joined in the fun on Sunday at the Golfie for Karen and John ‘Shark’ Daly’s farewell bowls day.

The pairs team of Marlene Wynd and David Schofield had a close game winning their match by +2 against Mick McManus and Gerrie Francisco.

Golfie GM Jason Howell teamed up with Craig ‘Duck’ Grimmond to play Alan ‘Alli Gee’ Gardoll and Michael Sargent.

Team Duck didn’t muck around and were leading by a bakers dozen by the 11th end.

A valiant effort to regain composure was made by Team Sarg, including a mighty six end win, but alas it was too little too late, with the ‘Ducks’ winning by +4.

The triples game between Peter ‘Skeet’ Goonrey, Karen Daly and Jay McKellar up against David ‘Ooze’ Knight, Shane Carter and Jeff Smith ended on a +5 positive note for team Skeet who led for most of play.

Another triples match ended favourably for Tony Polack, Darryl ‘Dash’ Jermyn and Barry Bargwanna. They had a +12 win against John ‘Shark’ Daly, Paul Kershaw and Glenn ‘Kiwi’ Ratcliffe.

Allan Knight and Randall Hall had a great day on the greens winning their game by +13 against Ian Prendergast and Narelle Kriz.

The Knights pretty much doubled their opponent’s score throughout the match.

The day’s runners-up were Alec ‘Young Gun’ Fraser and David Thomas who accounted for Dean ‘Bogger’ McLeod and Bian Smith by +14.

McLeod and Smith appeared to get well and truly bogged at turn three and then five.

Ordinarily any of the above top three scores would guarantee you a ham for Christmas but on Sunday it was a whopper of a score of +23 that was needed.

Rory Dunlop, ably assisted by novice Reina Cross, surpassed all expectations (including their own) to take the glory and the ham prizes.

Their opposition, John Goonrey and another novice Tyarna Crotty, had fun none the less.

(So what if you only score six shots over 18 ends! It’s not all about points on the board?  Well, ok, actually yes it is!)

There was a bit of contention as to who should be awarded the George The Giraffe wrong bias award this week but ‘hey’ this reporter’s pen is mighty so the title went to Sir Ooze Knight!

There was only one game of pairs played for Friday night’s Twilight Bowls event with Mick McManus and John ‘Shark’ Daly finishing as +4 victors against Andrew Reilly and Karen Daly.

The Twilight Jackpot is now sitting at $1,050.—The Second
