Benchwarmers slow to warm up

The Benchwarmers had a slow start in their Squalleyball game last week with Orphans however they finished strongly to claim a good win.

Both teams are new to this year’s competition.

Orphans got off to a great start easily winning the first two games 21-12 and 21-13 respectively however they came up against a different Benchwarmers side in the third game. It seemed that was when Benchwarmers had warmed up and they played a long rally which the Benchwarmers eventually won 23-21.

Benchwarmers then powered home to confidently win the next game 21-12 and closed out the match with a 21-17 victory in the 5th set to claim a 3-2 win.

The other three matches played last week in Round 2 of the competition were not so close and all finished in 5-0 results.

Kamikaze bounced back from their loss the previous week to claim a no sweat win over Baz.

Baz struggled all night against the on-fire Kamikaze combination of Colby Lawrence, Nikki Gilbert, Luke Anderson and Nicole Bruce.

The Kamikazes took the first game 21-10 and then demolished Baz 21-8 in the second. Kamikaze must have been in a big hurry to get to the pub for after game drinks as they quickly closed out the next three games 21-10, 21-15 and 21-10 for a 5-0 whitewash win.

Whatever also finished with an easy 5-0 win over the new Mixed-Up team.

It seemed the Whatever side were also thirsty and they won their five games in rapid succession: 21-5, 21-10, 21-16, 21-5 and 21-5 to barely give Mixed-Up a look in on the scoreboard.

Keg on Legs also had cause to celebrate last week with a 5-0 comprehensive win over Sweet Rally.

Keg on Legs however did have to work up a sweat to earn their win, particularly in the second game which Keg on Legs only just won 21-19. The other margins were: 21-15, 21-11, 21-11 and 21-16.
