After finishing at the top of the table, Howie’s Hombres looked to be the favourites to take out the Twenty/20 cricket grand final on Friday night at Ward Oval.
It was however Bushies’ night with the underdogs winning the match with Shane Martin hitting a four on the last ball to win the match.
It initially didn’t seem like it was going to be the best of starts for Bushies with Mark ‘George’ Fraser bowling a wide on his first ball. Fraser however had only lulled Howie’s Hombres’ opening batsman Roger Mitchell into a false sense of security as Mitchell was caught next ball by Alec Fraser.
Hombres’ other opener Jay Egan (45) was left to hold up their innings as his batting partners came and left in quick succession.
Pat Dillon (6) was next to fall followed by Adam Dougherty (9), Jake Harbison (4) and Chris Gilbert (1) with Damien Harbison (32), batting at No 8 the longest stayer.
Howie’s Hombres finished with a score of 116 with Mark Fraser finishing with the best bowling figures for Bushies with 3/12.
Bushies’ openers found the run getting slow going and it wasn’t until their No 3 Stephen Nicholson (41) and No 4 Stewart Fraser (36 not out) batters came onto the scene and smashed a few of sixers which got them on track.
Bushies needed 11 off the last over and two from the final ball. Martin’s four on the last ball that brought up Bushies’ thrilling win.
