Roosterettes sensational on their home turf

Jenna Fullagar had a standout game for the Roosterettes on Saturday in their League Tag 24-4 win over the Coonabarabran Unicorns at Tom Knight Memorial Oval. Fullagar evaded her defenders on numerous occasions and finished with a three try haul for the game, along with the Best and Fairest points and Players’ Player honour.

The Cobar Roosterettes were sensational on their home turf on Saturday beating the Coonabarabran Unicorns 34-4 in Round 6 of the Castlereagh League Tag competition.

It was less than two minutes into the game when the Cobar side got their first touch of the ball and from which they scored their first try.

Jenna Fullagar swivelled her way through the stunned Coonabarabran defence to score under the posts which made for a simple conversion for her captain Zoë Harland.

Shortly after Harland put in a short chip kick on the line and crossed to score under the posts. The successful conversion gave the Cobar team a 12-0 lead.

It was well into the first half before the Coonabarabran side got themselves into the Roosterettes’ 20m zone, however they failed to break the Roosterettes’ strong defence.

When in possession again the Roosterettes made short work of getting the ball back down the other end of the field and once again Fullagar weaved her way through to score again under the posts.

Harland’s third conversion gave the Roosterettes a commanding 18-0 lead going into the half time break.

Soon after the restart, Fullagar ran 60 metres to post her third try and Harland kicked her 4th conversion to take the score to 24-0.

Laura Ah-See slipped through the defence to score and presented Harland with a tougher conversion, but she handled it with ease to put Cobar 30-0 ahead.

Harland then outsprinted a number of younger defenders to post the final points for the Roosterettes.

The 40m run had an effect on Harland’s final attempt at goal which landed short of the mark and was waved away.

The Unicorns then had their best chance to score when the Roosterettes were penalised inside their own 10 metres however they failed to cross but got another chance shortly after when the home side conceded another penalty.

The Unicorns eventually scored in the final minutes through Hayley Andrews and the missed conversion gave Cobar a 34-4 win.

While the whole Roosterettes team played well, Fullagar was a standout in Saturday’s game to collect Best and Fairest three points as well as the Players’ Player honour.

Also having good games were Lisa Travis whose relentless efforts in defence and attack earned her Best and Fairest two points and Harland collected one point.

Nikki Davey, Brennah Amuma, Tanya Gilbert and Ah-See also served their team well in Saturday’s win.
