The Cobar Bowling & Golf Club’s Triples Bowls Tournament on the weekend attracted a field of 90 players from across the state and also South Australia.
Among the 30 teams for the annual tournament were players who had travelled from Blacktown, Cunnamulla, Tweed Heads, Gloucester, The Rock, Hillston, Nyngan, Bourke and Brighton SA, along with several Cobar teams.
The format was five games over two days and proved to be a great weekend with some quality bowls being played.
The winners for the weekend were the Bourke team of Willie Orcher, George Dickson and Steve ‘Pom’ Harding.
They were the only team to win all five of their games, which was a great effort.
In second place was the Cobar side of David ‘Ooze’ Knight, Alec Fraser and Dean ‘Bogger’ McLeod.
Finishing third was the Nyngan/Cobar team of Steve Read, Craig ‘Duck’ Grimmond and Michael Sargent. The Blacktown side of Rod Bartly, Dean Foreshew and Jack Tulloh (a former Cobar player), finished 4th.
The Round 1 winners with the best margin were Cunnamulla’s Daniel Burns, John Woodcroft, Mark Anderson.
The Round 2 victory went to Blacktown’s Ronald Saunders, Butch Renshaw and Shaun Collier.
Round 3 honours went to The Rock’s Norm McKay, John ‘Soup’ Collins and Ken Waterhouse.
Round 4 was won by Cobar’s Kevin Kershaw, Barry Womersley and Isaac Kershaw and Round 5 honours went to Cobar’s Peter ‘Skeet’ Goonrey, John Goonrey and Jim Goonre
