Yellow record a thriller win

Yellow (pictured above) narrowly trailed Pink 6-7 at the half-time break in their
Senior Touch (13-16 years) Round 4 game on Thursday afternoon at Ward Oval.
Despite the searing 40 degree heat, they fought back in the second half to finish with a thrilling 11-10 win.

The 2025 golfing season kicked off on Wednesday however, with work being done on the course, only nine holes were open for competition.

As it turned out, only four golfers turned up for the men’s competition anyway and of that four, Bian Smith, with 19 points, was a clear winner over Bill Fugar on 16.

The first real game took place on Saturday with a Four-Ball-Best-Ball event.

There was only a field of 13 players with a few players away.

However, there was a good sprinkling of junior players who teamed up with the “more mature” golfers, which is encouraging for the future of Cobar golf.

The best score of the day was 47 points by the team of the well-seasoned Andrew Bartlett and Rowdy Barton.

Rowdy also scored 41 points to have the best individual score.

Second place went to Stewart Fraser and Mark, “George” Fraser on 45 points.

George also scored 41 individual points with his ‘Old Man’ only scoring 28!

Third place went to Bill Fugar and Cohan Nicholson with 44 points.

Nearest the Pin prizes were won by George Fraser on the 3rd and 7th holes, while Peter ‘Ding’ Lawrence (who said he was having a beer-free day) took out the prize on the difficult 11th hole.

Sunday was a Par event with 11 players competing.

There were only two plus scores on the day, with Cohan Nicholson three shots clear of the rest of the field with a scorecard of  plus 4.

Second was Daryn Lord with plus 1.

Brian Russ came third with minus 1 and George Fraser was 4th with minus 3.

Only two Nearest the Pin prizes were won: George Fraser on the 3rd hole (for the second time in two days) and Rowdy Barton won Greg Clark’s favourite hole, the 8th.
