The Cobar Roosters Senior Rugby League Club hosted Round 2 of the Western Women’s Rugby League competition on Saturday at Tom Knight Memorial Oval.

Five games were played with the Castlereagh Cougars taking on Woodbridge in Under 12s, Under 14s, Under 16s, Under 18s and Opens matches.

The current group of Cobar players in this year’s Castlereagh competition has grown to 23 with 12 of them lining up to play in the depleted Opens side on Saturday.

A number of the younger players also stepped up to play two matches to help out the next grade.

Despite having a great start to their match with Cobar’s Madasan Taylor scoring an early try to give the Cougars Opens side an early lead, Woodbridge fought back to finish with a 24-10 win.

Cobar’s Neve Carter earned the Cougars’ Best & Fairest three points and shared the Players’ Player award.

The Under 18s Cougars only had a team of 12 players but they dug deep and with five minutes to go, they had an 18-14 lead.

Woodbridge levelled the score with an unconverted try soon after and, despite big efforts from both sides, the match finished in an
18-all draw.

Cobar’s Sophie Clark and Kelsey Neve scored tries for the Cougars.

The Cougars Under 16s were beaten 38-20.

The mercy rule was called in the Under 14s game when Castlereagh dominated and ran away with a 64-4 win.

Cobar’s Ella Oborn was among the try scorers in the Cougars Under 14s line up.

The Under 12s match was a close game with Woodbridge narrowly taking a 16-10 win over Castlereagh.

Cobar’s Bria-June Brookman landed a conversion and Isabelle Gillette collected B&F three points and the Players’ Player award.

Cougars will play their Round 3 matches in Mudgee this Sunday.
