It’s 50 years tomorrow since the Cobar Rugby League Football Club were victors in the Group 15 First Grade 1971 Grand Final playing under captain/coach Brian Lawrence. Cobar finished as 33-6 winners over Bourke. That season Cobar was also awarded the Country Rugby League Clayton’s Cup for the best overall playing record in NSW. Cobar played 16 games of which they won 13, lost one and drew two games scored a total of 531 points and only conceded 218 points. Cobar were also victors in Reserve Grade defeating Walgett 14-7 and the Under 18’s also won their grand final against Walgett that year, 17-8.
