BMX racer Chad Buckman had to fly the flag solo at Round 4 of the NSW BMX State Series in Maitland on the weekend.

Big sister Georgie had to pull out on the eve of the event due to illness.

It was a cold weekend for riders and spectators.

A crash in practice while trying to ‘dial in’ the third straight had Chad a little unsettled leading in to race day.

Chad qualified for the quarter finals in 17th position overall. He finished 6th, 5th and 2nd in his three motos (heats) with his lap times and start times improving with each race.

Chad had the ideal gate pick for the quarter finals starting from gate two.

Unfortunately he missed the start slightly and came into the first corner in 5th position and that’s where he remained through to the finish line.

With only the top four finishers advancing through the semi-finals, Chad was eliminated.—contributed
