CATS mark the end of a record season

The Cobar Athletics & Triathlon Squad (CATS) marked the end of their very successful 2015/2016 season with a presentation night and dinner at the Cobar Bowling & Golf Club on Friday night.

Club president Zoë Harland said she was pleased to report that in the past three years the club had grown from 30 members to a total of 65 members.

“This season we had 53 seniors and 12 juniors competing and of those 36 were new CATS members,” Harland said.

She listed a number of highlights of the season including: Wade Potter holding the club’s short and long course records; Alex Eves setting a new women’s long course record in January (even after taking a fall off her bike); and this season’s fun run, held in memory of Marg Settree, which raised $654 for Batyr mental health education.

The Male Triathlete of the Year was Aaron Davey.

This season Davey competed in four triathlon events and set new personal best (PB) times in all four events.

Martin Scott finished as the runner-up having competed in four triathlons and finishing two with new PBs.

Steph Baker was the Female Triathlete of the Year having competed in six triathlons this season and recording three PBs.

Amie Hill finished as the female runner-up having competed in four triathlons this season with three new PBs.

The Junior Triathlete of the Year award went to Chad Buckman who competed in six triathlons this season and finished with four PBs.

The junior runner-up was Thomas Jones who competed in four triathlons and set three new PBs.

The Marg & Setts Memorial Award for Most Improved Athlete of the Year went to Raymond Jones.

The CATS ‘Dream Teams’ (which were made up of the fastest competitor in each leg) for the short and long courses were announced with the short course team comprising of Georgia Baker (fastest swimmer), Wade Potter (fastest in the bike leg) and Chad Buckman (had the quickest run time of the season).

The long course Dream Team members were Mick Howell (swim), Jonathan Simpson (bike) and Greg McKervey (run).
