Cobar lady golfers can now boast having the NSW 2019 Sandgreens Champion in their ranks after Jenny Stephenson took out the event in Narromine on the weekend.
Affiliated with both Cobar and her home club in Broken Hill, Stephenson plays a number of tournaments on Sandgreens under the Cobar banner.
Trailing after the first round on Saturday, Stephenson came through to take the win on Sunday with Narelle Kriz holding on tight for a brilliant 3rd place finish.
Stephenson and Kriz, along with Fay Hardwick, also won the Scratch team title.
In last Wednesday’s Stableford game played on the home course, Fran Samios was the victor with 38 points followed by Geraldine Francisco (35), Ann Dunn (33) and Pat Polack and Pam Sikora who both scored 31 points each.
Nearest the Pin prizes went to Sally Bannister on the 7th hole and Pam Sikora on the 15th.
The numbers were a bit light on over the weekend for the local competitions with many golfers away in Narromine.
From a field of seven players for both days, Geraldine Francisco finished in the winner’s circle for both games.
On Saturday she won the Par event posting a score of +6.
Ann Dunn was next with an even card and Suzie Hardwick finished in third spot with -3 and a Nearest the Pin win on the 11th hole.
Di Greer picked up the Nearest the Pin prize on the 8th hole.
A close finish in the Stroke round on Sunday had Francisco with a score of 72 net edge out Barb Barklimore (73) and Ann Dunn (74) to win the day.
Barklimore was the best with the short stick having 23 putts.
Today’s game will be a Stableford and on Friday the Cobar Vets Championships will be held.
Saturday is a three person Ambrose, sponsored by Rob’s C Food.
Welcoming the first day of spring is the ‘Pink Day’ three person Stableford. Players are urged to finalise their teams for the weekend ASAP.—T’d Off
