Mayor Lilliane Brady last Friday officiated over the biggest naturalisation ceremony in Cobar to date, welcoming nine new Australian citizens.

Nine Cobar residents received their Australian Citizenship at one of the biggest naturalisation ceremonies held in Cobar at the Cobar Shire Council Chambers last Friday.

Colleen Arnold, Sophie and Phillipe Pearse, Gaile Talu, Josephine Umbella and her four sons Benjamin, Frank, Kelvin and Victor Mfoi were welcomed by Mayor Lilliane Brady as they pledged their commitment to Australia.

Colleen came to Australia in January 2010 from Ireland, and moved to Cobar with her husband Bryce and daughter in October 2012.

Sophie and Phillipe are originally from England, moving to Australia five years ago and spending the past three years in Cobar.

The pair were recently married at the Great Cobar Heritage Centre.

Josephine and her husband Evarist Peter Mfoi and family are originally from Tanzania, residing in Cobar for the past four years. (Mr Mfoi is expected to sit his citizenship test at a later date).

Gaile is originally from Papua New Guinea and has been in Australia for eight years.
