Warm start for Yabbies’ first swim of the new season

The Yabbies were greeted with a nice 25.1 degrees water temperature for their first swim of
the new 2026/2027 season on Tuesday night at the Cobar Memorial Swimming Pool.

A new season of the Cobar Senior Men’s
Swimming Club commenced on Tuesday
night with 14 swimmers taking their first
dip of the season for one of their warmest
starts to a Yabbies’ season in many years.
Four swimmers revelled in the 25.1 degrees
water temperature to each record places in
two events.
Scott Toomey finished with the most points
for the night after claiming first place in the 30
metres handicapped freestyle swim and also
first place in the 100m event.
Matt Harland also got off to a good start to
the season recording two second places in the
100m and 50m events.
Bill Fugar claimed line honours in the 50m
swim and also finished with a third place in
the 30m event.
Dave Mexted kicked his season off with two
third place finishes in his 50m and 100m
swims.
James Daymond was the only other swimmer
to make the podium with his second place
finish in the 30m swim.
The pool staff, Tom Jones and Henry
Knight, cleaned up the rest of the field in the
Brace Relay novelty event, which was a dolphin
dive across the pool.
