After a pair of standout performances in the 400 metres sprint events two weeks ago, two more new Cobar Little A’s club records have been set.

Both new records were set by Under 7 athletes.

Clayton Matlam set a new Under 7 Male 400m club record of 1min 48.36sec and Claire Thompson now holds the new Under 7 Female 400m club record with her quick time of 2.19.77.

Clayton is lucky to have his mum, Toea Malbe nee Wisil, a former Papua New Guinea Olympic sprinter, as his private coach.

Sprinting runs in his mum’s family with two of Toea’s brothers holding national sprint records, and one represented Papua New Guinea in the 100 metres at two Commonwealth Games.

With that sort of star power in his DNA, it’s no wonder Clayton is setting sprint records at just six years old!…Full report in this weeks edition out now
