As the Tritton Mine near Hermidale continues to attract more staff from Cobar, the mine has recently implemented a daily bus service for 12 hour rostered employees.
Talan Breaden, the manager of people and safety at Aeris Resources’ Tritton Operations, said the new bus service, with a carrying capacity of 37 people, will allow their Cobar-based employees to travel to and from home each day, comfortably and safely at no cost to them.
Mr Breaden said the new bus service to Co-bar, operated by McMahons coaches, follows on the success of their mini bus service for their 10 hour employees who live in Cobar.
“The benefits are first and foremost the safety of our employees and the community,” Mr Breaden said.
“The service also has benefits beyond this including the financial benefit of not having to drive your own vehicle, the family and social benefits of being able to return home each night and the ability to gain an extra hour’s sleep on a very comfortable bus could be seen as a personal benefit for some,” he said.
Mr Breaden said the service came about after some discussion of its feasibility and follows a number of new appointments within senior leadership at Tritton Copper Operations.
“We see Tritton Operations as a partner of the Cobar community and look forward to strengthening our relationship with Cobar for everyone’s benefit,” Mr Breaden said.
A number of Tritton staff that work across various mine departments live in Cobar however currently only approximately five per cent were choosing to make the daily commute.
Mr Breaden said as they now can offer their Cobar staff a daily bus service, more employees may choose to take up the offer.
He hopes having the daily service to Cobar will also encourage more applications from Cobar residents to work at Tritton.
The new Cobar bus service will run seven days per week/365 days per year.
