Thriller games played in the pointy end of the competition

After a period of extra time in the Open Mixed Touch B Grade elimination semi final on Thursday, Rusty Snails (pictured above) emerged as victors. They were well and truly matched by their opposition, Guns N Hoses, with the scores locked at 6-all at full time. Rusty Snails will meet Fast Fades in tomorrow’s final with the winner to play Phat Athletes in next week’s grand final.

With two grand final berths up for grabs, four thrilling games were played in the semi finals of the Mixed Open Touch competition on Thursday night at Ward Oval.

Phat Athletes received their “golden ticket” into the B Grade grand final after they scored an exciting 4-3 win over Fast Fades.

Phat Athletes narrowly led 2-1 at half time before the scores were locked up at 3-all near the end of the match.

When Scott Meadows scored his second second-half try, which ultimately earned Phat Athletes the win, he was elevated to hero status by his team.

Rhylee Patterson scored their other try. (Female tries are worth double points.)

Damon Bruce (2) and Sam Best were Fast Fades’ try scorers.

Fast Fades will get another shot at a grand final berth this week when they take on Rusty Snails in the final.

Rusty Snails just survived their elimination semi final game against Guns N Hoses.

Guns N Hoses fought back from a 2-3 deficit at half time to level the scores at 6-all by the full time whistle.

The match had to go into extra time, with drop off and golden point rules initiated to find a winner. Jesse Murphy scored the winning point for Rusty Snails to win 7-6.

Corinne McLeod landed two tries for Rusty Snails with Ashton Dietrich and Mason King also crossing for a try each.

Noah Forbutt ran in five tries for Guns N Hoses and Beigh Hillier crossed for one.

Guns N Hoses have now been eliminated from the competition.

Red Hot Chilli Steppers have also been eliminated for the season after they lost their A Grade elimination semi final to The Blossoms, 11-8, last week.

Chilli Steppers led 4-3 at the half time break but were unable to contain a second half fight back by The Blossoms.

Sosie Barton led the scoring (and the fightback) for The Blossoms with three second half tries. Jaxon Burke crossed twice and Kai Taylor, Oisin McMullen and Rowdy Barton added their extras.

Anita Atuau, Brennah Aumua, Kayla Hasson, Sione Fakahua and Loma Atuau were the Chilli Steppers’ try scorers.

Concrete Cowboys continued their unbeaten run this season and earned the first A Grade grand final berth with an 8-5 win over MTE Mako’s.

Concrete Cowboys ran in five tries to MTE Mako’s four, but it was their three female tries (that are worth double points) that helped them to win the match.

Bridgette Negfeldt, Rori Urquhart and Taylah Good were their female scorers with Kai Greenwood and Toby Greenwood adding the extras with a try each. Tadgh McMullen (2), Nikki Gilbert and Tommy Bryan touched down for MTE Mako’s.

MTE Mako’s will take on The Blossoms in tomorrow night’s A Grade final with the winner to advance to next week’s grand final.
