Former local resident Michael Warren started his role as a journalist at The Cobar Weekly on Monday.
Michael did all his schooling in Cobar
before heading off to Sydney in the late
1990s to study and pursue a career in journalism.
He recently relocated from Cairns to take up the position.
“In a lot of ways, it feels like my career has come full circle,” Michael said.
“I can remember doing work experience
at The Weekly when I was 14 or so, and that was my first real foray into the media industry.
“So to be back where it all started is quite a unique feeling. Cobar is a special little town with great people so it’s a real pleasure to cover the local news matters here.”
Over the journey Michael has worked at several papers including The Cairns Post and Mackay Telegraph.
In recent times he took a break from newspaper journalism to explore other pursuits but Michael said he is now happy to be back working in the media industry.
Away from journalism Michael likes to spend time with his black labrador ‘Rocky’, keep fit and follow the successes of his favourite NRL side.
“I also like to exercise and being outdoors, so the weather in Cobar is pretty perfect for that.
“Sports wise, I’m a long suffering Parramatta Eels fan, so I’m still waiting for that first elusive premiership since 1986!”
