The Cobar Roosters Rugby League Club has appointed Paul ‘Sully’ Sullivan as their new First Grade coach for 2025.

Club president John Dunn announced on Monday that Sullivan, who led last season’s Roosters Under 18s to a grand final victory,  would be stepping up to coach the Roosters First Grade squad next season.

“We were impressed with what Sully’s done with the 18s and the team he had around  him—with Claud Parisi as the team manager, Tommy Good who assisted with training and Ambrose McMullen was there to help as well.

“The whole group are coming with Sully.

“It just made it an easy decision to fit these guys into First Grade as they’ve earnt a lot of respect in the club,” Dunn said.

“Claud especially has been good for the team and good for the club.

“He gets around and does a lot of stuff behind the scenes that no one sees and he’s also brought some good morale into the club.”

Dunn said last season’s First Grade co-coaches Loma Atuau and Thomas Plater did not re-apply to coach again next season.

He said Atuau has re-signed with the Nyngan Tigers.

“He’ll be greatly missed,” Dunn said.

“Tom is currently nursing a couple of injuries with his shoulder and finger.”

Dunn said having their First Grade coach all sorted prior to the end of the year takes a big worry off the committee’s shoulders.

He said they also have interest from a couple of new players to join the team next season.

“They are coming to work out here from Sydney,” he said.

“Our plan is the boys will have some training sessions before Christmas and then get into it early January and knock a few kg’s off!

“Things are going really well.

“We’ve got a good committee and a very good relationship with the juniors and we’re sort of building towards having one big club, a family club.

“That’s been my goal,” he said.

The club has yet to appoint Under 18s and League Tag coaches for next season but Dunn said there are a few options on the table and they hope to be able to make those announcements early in the new year…full story in this week’s edtion.
