Cobar High School students paid a moving tribute to local service men and women with the debut performance of their original song Remember What For at the Cobar RSL Sub-Branch Anzac Day Service on April 25.

The song began as a poem written by a group of students in English class with teacher Ms Cassandra Best, as part of a project exploring Cobar’s connections to World War I.

As part of the project, local historian Kay Stingemore visited the school to share stories and insights about Cobar families and their roles in WWI, helping students make meaningful connections between the past and their own heritage.

Students delved into both the town’s wartime history and their own family stories, weaving these discoveries into a powerful and heartfelt piece of music.

“The project really showed what students can achieve when they connect with their community and history,” Ms Best said.

“They took great pride in telling Cobar’s story through their own voices.”

The school has already received wonderful support and positive feedback from the community for the song’s powerful message and performance.
