The new Squalleyball competition got off to a good start at the youth centre last Thursday night with two very close games played.
Sweet Rally, who’s had an injection of some new players this competition, finished with a narrow 3-2 win over newcomers, Mixed Up.
Sweet Rally convincingly won the opening game 21-12 before Mixed Up found their feet and stole the next game 21-17.
Sweet Rally hit back to win the third 21-18 and when Mixed Up won the fourth game 21-16, the fifth and final game was looking like it would be a good showdown.
However it seemed by that stage that Mixed Up were completely spent, and Sweet Rally closed out the match with a 21-8 win of the final game.
Old rivals BNB and Kamikaze Pilots also finished with a 3-2 result that eventually went BNB’s way.
BNB opened with a narrow 21-19 win before Kamikaze won the next two games 21-17 and 21-11.
BNB fought back to win the fourth game (21-16) and also the fifth (21-18), which was the decider.
Baz, with some years of Squalleyball experience under their belts, were too good for another new side, the Orphans. Baz won 5-0.
The Orphans however did give Baz a run for their money in the second game, which they only lost 17-21, and in Game 5 they went down 18-21.
Whatever also played all over another new team, the Benchwarmers.
Whatever, who had they luxury of a full side, easily won 5-0.
